Art, History & Culture: your holiday in Capalbio
Spend your holidays in Capalbio, a destination able to combine perfectly past and present. In every corner of this village, you can breathe culture and art, from the ancient finds of the Roman villas, passing through the medieval village preserved almost intact, up to the extraordinary work of art: the Tarot Garden.
Strolling through the medieval village it will be like going back in time, walking along ancient streets through which famous people have passed before you, including Giacomo Puccini himself, who loved to spend his summer holidays here.
Among the most evocative buildings to visit we find the Rocca Aldobrandesca with its imposing tower, symbol of power of a family that has ruled these lands for a long time. Not far away is the Palazzo Collacchioni, of Renaissance origin, which houses numerous frescoes, period furniture and the Forte-piano of 1823 built by Conrad Graf, a well-known German pianist whose pianos were also used by Beethoven and Chopin. Art and crafts exhibitions are also organized inside the palace in summer.
You will therefore have a chance to take part in interesting cultural events in Piazza Magenta, symbol of the village, at different times of the year, such as the famous “Capalbio Libri”.
You will breathe art also in the small shops of the many artists and craftsmen who have arrived here from all over the world attracted by the charm of the place and welcomed in a sensitive environment and able to incorporate their expressions. In the streets of the old town, as in country houses or hamlets, you can then find them at work in their studios.
Finally, it is worth visiting Piazza Belvedere square that opens onto the splendid panorama and on which is located the Nanà by the French artist Niki De Saint Phalle, also author of the suggestive Tarot Park, one of the highest expressions of environmental art also known as the Italian Park Güell.
