Capalbio in summer

Capalbio is the perfect destination for a summer holiday: both for those who prefer to discover the historical and artistic beauties of the area, and for those who love nature or simply want to enjoy a few days at the sea in complete relaxation!

The “Little Athens” is home to a historic centre full of wonderful attractions such as the Rocca Aldobrandesca. The entire ancient village, enclosed within a double set of walls, is a pedestrian area where you can walk in total tranquillity, surrounded by a very suggestive atmosphere. A few steps from the centre it will possible to discover the Tarot Garden, an artistic work by Niki de Saint Phalle in which nature is “embraced” by many coloured statues: a real spectacle!

Sandy beaches and crystal-clear sea are a must in Capalbio! Starting from the north, you will find the promontory of Ansedonia, with Playa la Torba, a quiet beach with dark sand, very popular with families with children. Going south, you will find the beach of Macchiatonda, divided into two areas: a wild and uncrowded stretch of coast and a well-equipped area with beach resorts and one of the most exclusive pubs on the Costa d’Argento. Here you will also find the Natural Reserve of Lake Burano, the first WWF Oasis, where you can join an interesting guided tour that takes place every summer. A two-kilometre walk will take you to the discovery of Lake Burano, which is surrounded by the Mediterranean scrub and hides numerous bird species. Try to spot them from the numerous observation points!

Arriving almost at the border with Lazio, you will find Chiarone, with the famous Ultima Spiaggia, an exclusive stretch of coastline known throughout Italy and frequented by many famous people. Sailing sports such as windsurfing and kitesurfing can be practised along the entire coastline to satisfy everyone.

In summer, Capalbio organises numerous trekking and hiking experiences. Sunset time is perfect for enjoying breathtaking views, and very often, the excursions continue into the night, when only the moonlight illuminates the wild nature and the temperatures are much more pleasant.

Festivals, fairs, food and wine events, cultural events, cowboy shows, and so on and so forth. Capalbio hosts numerous traditional events in the summer, particularly in July and August, such as “Capalbio è vino”, an event that promotes the Capalbio wine-growing area, or the “Torneo di Butteri”, a skills challenge between local cowboys from all over the Maremma region. Every year, the important event, “Capalbio Libri”, takes place. It is a festival dedicated to the pleasure of reading and the search for new ways to promote and transmit books and other literary works to future generations.
