Sustainable tourism in Capalbio

Sustainable tourism is a kind of tourism that respects the environment, the economy and the identity of people living there…

If you dream of taking a less hectic holiday, with slower times and rhythms, Capalbio is the ideal place. Immersed in nature, the Municipality has always been aware of the importance of sustainability, a more conscious use of resources and respect for the surrounding environment.

There are many possibilities for a sustainable tourism in Capalbio. You can choose to rent a bike and ride along the panoramic roads to reach your points of interest easily or discover hidden paths among the vineyards and olive trees, all this without hurry and at your own pace; or maybe you could visit the Oasis of Burano, protected by the WWF, and spend the whole day in close contact with the local fauna.

Strolling around you will be astonished by the great treasure, which is the crystal-clear sea, touched by golden sandy beaches, awarded with “Five Sails” from Legambiente, an ideal place to observe the beautiful sunsets refreshed by the sea breeze on summer evenings.

Talking about sustainable tourism, important aspects to consider are the relationship with local people and the culinary tradition.

The streets of the old town as well as the farmhouses are rich in craftsmen working in their workshops, ceramic artists, painters or masters able to give new and original life to old furniture and objects of the peasant tradition, such as: the artists of QART Capalbio or the designer Silvia Franci who, together with local craftsmen-artists, founded “IL COLLETTIVO”, a working group to relaunch artistic craftsmanship.

The culinary aspect has a strong link with the territory, so local shops sell typical products such as vegetables in oil and tasty cheeses.

Local excellences also boast the Capalbio brand for “country chic” style clothes. Launched in 1992, the Capalbio brand has achieved success by producing garments suitable for Tuscan “Butteri” (cowboys) who, riding their horse, needed durable and work-friendly clothing. Today, under the guidance of Manifatture Toscane, the new jacket in Maremma-style par excellence is born, with the purpose to export the Capalbio and Maremma styles all over the world.
