The breathtaking views of Porto Ercole
Porto Ercole is a pretty seaside town located on the Argentario promontory. The bay, in which the port is set, is a quiet area where you can enjoy an excellent lunch of fresh fish in one of the many restaurants along the seafront. The center of Porto Ercole is characterized by narrow alleys, very suggestive and enchanting squares from which you can admire stunning views of the sea.
Porto Ercole also has a historical charm represented by the imposing Spanish fortresses that were built in the 16th century, including the Forte Filippo, the Rocca and the Forte Stella. These three fortifications have been perfectly preserved over time and today they can be fully visited. You cannot miss the breathtaking views that can be enjoyed from their terraces.
The sea is undoubtedly the main attraction of this town and to fully enjoy it is recommended to rent directly on the port of a small boat or a dinghy, with which you can sail along the entire coast in total tranquility. Porto Ercole boasts wonderful sandy beaches suitable for lovers of comfort and relaxation. One of these is the renowned Feniglia Beach, reachable on foot and suitable for children.
The crystal-clear water that distinguishes this place is perfect for those who practice scuba diving, thanks to the presence of numerous well-equipped dive centers.
Along the beautiful Strada Panoramica (Panoramic Road), you will meet several suggestive and wild coves reachable only on foot, following paths surrounded by vegetation. These will take you to three magnificent beaches such as Le Viste, Spiaggia Lunga and Acqua Dolce.
Not far from Porto Ercole is the marina of Cala Galera where numerous boats and yachts belonging to famous television and film stars are moored.
Like Porto Santo Stefano, Porto Ercole has also been recognized by FEE as one of the best coastal towns in Europe, characterized by the symbol of the Blue Flag for its clean and perfect sea for bathing and by the Green Flag for its beaches completely accessible to children.
