A walk from the historic center of Capalbio to the Tarot Garden
The Maremma region is one of the most fascinating areas of the Tyrrhenian coast, a magical place that presents a wild and uncontaminated nature, very suggestive rural landscapes and villages full of history to discover. Strolling around this area through wonderful olive groves, vineyards and shady pine forests is truly a unique experience, which will allow you to get in direct contact with the thriving nature that characterizes the lush Mediterranean scrub. Tranquility and beauty are the keywords that best describe the many trekking routes that will surely be able to seduce and satisfy you.
If you are not going to get too far from Capalbio, a worthwhile walking excursion can be the one inside its ancient historic center. Entering from the ancient city gate “Porta Senese”, you will find a tangle of alleys enclosed within the ancient 15th-century walls. Strolling around the narrow streets you will hear sounds and smells of times gone by, a sort of journey into the past, which will take you to discover the castle of the Abbey of the Three Fountains of Rome, which still dominates the town today. Near the Torre della Rocca degli Aldobrandeschi stands the Palazzo Collacchioni, known for hosting an eighteenth-century piano played by Puccini.
Your excursion can continue towards the famous Tarot Garden. It is very easy to reach it. Upon your arrival you will admire an enchanting theme park in which the 22 tarot cards are represented, in the form of giant sculptures. The realization of this artistic work belongs to the French sculptress Niki de Saint Phalle, who was inspired by the well-known Guell Park in Barcelona by the famous architect Gaudí. The garden is located precisely in the Tenuta Garavicchio estate, in an area of hilly plateaus not far from Capalbio. The sculptures are made with the mosaic technique, using materials such as ceramics and the prestigious Murano colored glass. The Tarot Garden is a magical place full of different meanings and interpretations. Even children will be able to appreciate it thanks to their innate imagination.
